How often should I change my pad/tampon?
If you are wearing a pad, it is recommended you change it every 3 to 4 hours. No matter how light your flow is, or even if there is no flow, bacteria can build up.
A tampon should be changed every 3 to 4 hours as well, or when it's saturated with blood. Because you can't see it as you would with a pad, it’s important to remember when it's time to change to avoid spotting or leakage.
Do I have to change an organic tampon more often than a non-organic tampon?
Organic tampons are made with only organic cotton and do not have synthetic fibers or rayon in them. These other additives create more absorption, so we recommend you change your Ashlyn Lee tampon a bit more often to avoid potential leaks.
What is TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome)?
Toxic shock syndrome is a rare, life-threatening complication of certain types of bacterial infections. Often toxic shock syndrome results from toxins produced by Staphylococcus aureus (staph) bacteria, but the condition may also be caused by toxins produced by group A streptococcus (strep) bacteria. Yes, our packaging consists of responsibly sourced, recycled cardboard.
Are Ashlyn Lee products tested on animals?
Our pads & liners are never tested on animals.
Tampons are regulated as Class II medical devices under FDA, and as a result, must adhere to specific legal standards.
In the interest of full transparency, before 2016, legal standards required our manufacturer (and all manufacturers and brands who sell these products in the US) to evaluate the safety of their products by performing some animal tests prior to launching as part of the FDA’s 510(k) clearance application. Once a new Class II medical device receives FDA clearance, no further testing is required unless there is a material change made to the product.
As such, our manufacturers have not conducted any animal tests on our products regulated as Class II medical devices since receiving FDA 510(k) clearance. We are thrilled that the FDA now supports cruelty-free methods of evaluating the safety of these products in certain circumstances. In the event that we launch a new product, we will require our manufacturing partners to demonstrate the safety of any newly developed product without the use of animal testing whenever possible.
